Junior School Curriculum

006.jpg Within the Reception Class, children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and begin topic work which introduces them to a variety of different subjects and to the idea of research. They take their first steps in computing, with each of our classes having its own computer facilities.

In following the National Curriculum, great emphasis is placed at the Infant stage on basic education in literacy and numeracy, with care being taken to maintain a careful balance between successful teaching methods, both traditional and modern. We stress the importance of language development in Speech, Reading, Spelling and Writing and we actively encourage the habit of careful listening. In these ways we aim to produce pupils who are clear thinkers and confident communicators.

Subjects covered in the Junior School include:

  • Numeracy
  • Science
  • Reading
  • Literacy (Language, Literature, Spelling, Handwriting, Poetry, Drama)
  • Geography and History
  • Art and Design Technology
  • French
  • Italian
  • ICT
  • Music and Dance
  • PSHE (Personal Social and Health Education), Citizenship and Religious Education
  • Physical Education, Games and Swimming

In addition to its own amenities, the Junior School has access to all the Grammar School's facilities.
